Proud Mama

I got my first egg. I am one proud chicken mama.

Get it together Fluffy

We are finally home from our vaca. I must say it was FABULOUS!!!! At home it was 99 and in the mountains a cool 74. I will take the cooler weather any day. My mothers flowers were gorgeous while at home mine were a nice shade of khaki. It is going to be in the 100's for the next 7-10 days. I have some issues with this. My girls aka as the chickens are not loving that. My garden and herbs are wilting fast and my plants are going down for the count. I have no clue what our utility bill is but that is hubby's concern. Poor man. Basically it is HOT!!!!

I have spent most of the summer working things out in my mind concerning Dragonfly Farms. Now that I know the direction I want to go I am getting just a little excited. I will not start till after the first of the year. I am going to spend the fall gathering inventory. I am also going to sew all fall. Dragonfly Farms will be up and running soon. Let's see how busy I can make myself. Full time job and full time farm girl.

I have been working a lot on my library. I love my library. I love love love books. Trying to get the library organized the way I want {hit a brick wall on that}and working on DF I have been a little scattered brain. Once school starts and I get into a groove I am sure I will not feel like I am keeping 15 balls in the air. I basically have 3 weeks till school begins. I am hoping that I can have the library closed for the first week. I have a few more responsibilities added to my plate and I just want to make sure I do not drop any.

It will be a hot day today so I should get my day rolling. I am off to clean Maison de Poule. YUCK!!! Have a great day my little chickies.

Books and leather

So much has happened since the demise of my computer. The computer is toast but I have a spare to use for a bit while I shop for a new one. The kids have been at various camps. My most wonderful son is gone for 2 weeks which is a mixed blessing. He needs to spread his wings but it is so so so so hard on me. Lovely daughter is home but not home. She sleeps here but is so busy I never see her during the day. Our summer is flying by.

I have not worked outside of the house for 15 years. For our family, it was important that I stay home with the kids. We sacrificed a lot by only having one paycheck to live on but it was totally worth the sacrifice. My kids are secure and happy. Now saying that, there is no way I believe that my way is the only way for happy healthy kids but it worked for my family. After 15 years, I am going back to work. I will be the librarian at the elementary school. I have sat on my degree for awhile and it is time to do something with this. I am beyond excited. I adore books so much. I love childrens literature. Next week I am off to the library to make it my own. I love the smell of books. I wish I could have lots of leather furniture in there but that would be ridiculous. I think I will make a library at home so I can have my leather smells. As this progresses I will keep you informed.

The chickens are growing so big. No eggs yet. I am thinking around the middle of August. I am also working on a little side business. I have the name but not exactly sure the direction I want to go. Dragonfly Farms will be my outlet. I am thinking of doing 2-3 festivals a year. This will be so much fun.

Off to work on the farmhouse. The Maison de Poulet needs a good cleaning but the rain is hampering my effort. Have a great 4th of July my little chickens.

It could be awhile

Little kitty knocked over my lap top and the screen cracked. Boo Hoo :( I am hoping that next week I will have time to take it in to be repaired. It could be awhile but I will be lurking around reading my favorite blogs. Have a great summer.

Mother's Day and a really dirty house

I had a fabulous Mother's Day. I went to bed at 8 pm and even had a nap. We had a great day at church and my MIL went with us for lunch. The only time I stepped foot in the kitchen was to get a drink. I got what I asked for. I wanted canning jars. Not exciting but needed. Thank you wonderful kids and hubby. You make my world spin. You make my heart sing and most of all you make me love my job.

Well since I did NOTHING all weekend my house is a total shambles. I hope that I can get a grip on this monster. I have finished my outside chores so I can now spend the day making the Dragonfly house shine and sparkle. I know you are saying "But Fluffymuffy, if you are on here you are not cleaning". Guess what you are right so saying that I am out of here. Have a fabulous week.

Oh my girls

My little girls are getting so big. I can not believe that they are only 2 weeks old. Sweet hubby is working himself ragged trying to get their little Maison de Poule ready. I am hoping that in 2 weeks it will be ready for the girls. I am on the look out for some very sweet smelling vines to grow around the coop. I want to mask the aroma that they will be living in. :) Of course it can not be too dense because I do not want unwanted snakes to hide in there. Wisteria is nice but I just am not too sure yet. Any ideas?

On the garden front. Most everything is in including the herb garden. There are still a few more plants I need to get. I also want to get some for pots. Hummingbird feeders are full, just waiting for those fabulous little birds. While I will be gone this weekend, I am hoping that I will come home to a Martin house. My garden just needs to get its groove on. I think my radishes might be getting close to being ready. Wish I like radishes.

Hubby has made himself a larger workroom. My mind is running with ideas for his old workroom. I hope I can weasel my way into there. I am thinking a garden shed. My obsession this week will be finding some that I can pattern mine after. First I have to get in there. Wish me luck

Have a great week,

Dragonfly Farms ? {maybe}

I have been mulling over this idea for awhile. First let me tell you that I have a"backyard garden, a backyard orchard and backyard chickens." Everything is micro. What I have could not even sustain my family of 4 but this is what I would like to do. When I make jams, jellies, baked goods etc... I want to put a label on the jars, bags, whatever I use. When I give these things away there will be a cute label on them. Hopefully people will start to talk about my things and create a buzz. Eventually maybe I can start my own business. Who knows. I am trying to think of names for my little micro farm. Any thoughts? Have a fabulous week.

Chickens and the allergy twins

These are two of my new babies. Within a span of one week I have 2 new kittens aka The Allergy Twins and six of these little wonders. Every spring I have the need for something tiny and new. My sweet husband just accepts these things and rlls with the flow. Let's begin with the little felines. {pics soon} They are named Fiona and Rex. My son has become very enthralled with them. I am highly allergic to cats but that never stops me. Luckily they hang out in my sons room. My little chickies are A~DORABLE !!!!!! They are living the life of luxury. They hang out in the sunroom for now. Their little abode is in the process of being finished. Shout out to the fabulous Heather Bullard of www.heatherbullard.com for her inspiration. We are taking her most awesome hen house design and tweaking it to fit us here in Mayberry. BTW these little beauties lay pastel eggs.

One more weekend full of kids activities and then we have a month long break before things kick up again. I know the kids need a little break and mom does too. This taxi service needs a little vacation. Speaking of vacations ~~~~~ we are not having one this year. We may run off for a weekend but the kids are jammed packed this summer so family time is out. I am hoping to get a few days at the mountain house. Hubby thinks we may get a few days at the beach but nothing in stone. Back to my free month. I need to take the opportunity to get things done before our craziness picks back up. SPRING CLEANING !!!! is first and foremost. I think I need to make a list for the month. My mind is running. I think I will go start now. Have a great day.

Simplify

Right now, in my little world, life is caotic to say the least. When life is spiining out of control, I feel that as humans we look for ways to slow it down so we handle life. My way is to simplify things. I look to the past to help with the present. We are constantly on the go and never see one another. I am almost always short and gruff with my youngest. She is so wonderful and forgiving. I smile everytime I look at those emerald green eyes. I never see the oldest except for the two days this past week that he was stuck in the car with now me. My heart sings whenever I get those moments. He will be off on his own journey soon and I will not get to look into deep soulful eyes every day like I do now.

My blog reading has dramatically changed within the past year. I used to solelly read ones about clothes, shopping, etc... but it is more about family, home, church, etc... I am comfortable in this role that I have made. I may not always be in this role but for now this is what works. I am a HORRIBLE and I do mean bad, housekeeper. {just keeping it real} Knowing this and knowing where I want my journey to go that must change and change quickly. I have been working on things in my mind for weeks if not months on how I need life to be and now it is time to implement these things.

You may ask, where are you going with this rambling? Well let me tell you. Since I have my life map done, I hope to use this as my accountability tool. My fabulous husband occasionally reads this ,{hi, honey} so he will certainly make sure I do what I say. Of course in the end I only have to prove this to my self. Eventually I will have this blog up and running like everyone else but it will take time. I am not computer literate. Ok enough of this sappy mombo jombo. I am off to clean the kitchen. Have a great spring day. Next post will not be such a downer, I promise.

Fan freakin tabulous !!!!!!!

I say that with excitement not sarcasm. I am going to get everything done on my to do list today. It is rare that it happens in my world. I normally have too much on list and at the end of the day I feel like such a big ole failure. After this week, my cleaning schedule will be a breeze. It will take all week to get the house in order and then I will just have up keep. How smart am I? I spent all night last night organizing my days. I am one happy girl.

My little girl is home sick today. I had visions of snuggling time and reading time. She has done nothing but sleep. Poor little thing. She really is not feeling well. I think I will make her a little something special, homemade chicken noodle soup. The rest of us will be having Monte Cristo sammies with baked fries and salad. I am hoping that she will be up for fudgy brownies but it looks like I may need to put one back for her.

I wish it was a little warmer. I would love to do some yard work but it needs to be 70 degrees or above. We are due for some rain later this week. I am thinking those days, after my daily chores of course, will be wonderful to dream about the garden and chicken coop. Yep you heard right, we will be getting chickens this spring. I double heart baking and want to use the freshest eggs. I need to also begin collecting jars for canning. If only hubby would build the shelves in the laundry room. My pantry runneth over and I need more room. Things are happening naturally. When I push it never happens the way I want them to. Oh happy days.

Oh Ick !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my week to get my self together. I am taking room by room and really cleaning and organizing the thing. Next week I hope to be on a schedule, along with the kids. Hubby and I have had a cold for the last 6 weeks. Ok maybe not that long but it feels like it. I thought some soup sounded great. I do not have any homemade already made or even in the freezer so I opened a can of soup. I keep these on hand for when someone is sick and there is nothing already made. Let me say this OH ICK ICK ICK ICK ICK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are so nasty. Too salty, and too gummy. The veggies are soggy. There is a reason people prefer homemade. After the house gets organized I will be cooking/baking/freezing. I do not want this to ever happen again. I will be searching the cookbooks soon.
